Describing the fundamentals of design as “purposeful, thoughtful, hopeful, beautiful and wonderful”, Mr Bernard Tay believes that design excellence is the ability to strike a balance between the pragmatic and poetic when creating any design product.

With over twenty years of experience in the architectural industry, Bernard's key portfolio comprises mixed-use developments and residential apartments in Singapore and Indonesia. Incorporating his design philosophy into his projects, they effectively marry beautiful form with functional spaces. Zhongshan Park in Singapore, and Central Park in Jakarta are prime examples that balance functional planning with elegance in architectural forms and facade.

He was also instrumental to the design and completion of Senayan City in Jakarta, which helped establish DPA’s presence in the country. Over the years, his experience encompasses prominent projects across a wide range of typologies and scale. These include The City Tower and City Centre in Jakarta, The Trans Studio Mall and Luxury Hotel in Bandung, The Trilliant at Tashkent, as well as Residences at Evelyn Road and H2O Residences in Singapore.

An active leader among peers, Bernard was nominated as the inaugural President of DP Recreation Club (now DP Life). He established the initial framework for organising company-wide events and recreational activities for the welfare of DP employees.

A key facilitator in the Design Department since 2008, he was tasked to help raise the design standard of the firm. Bernard believes that architects and designers must always be driven to do better and continue to improve their work even after perceived deadlines were met. Today, he continues to explore creative ideas in spatial usage & planning, and advocates for sustainable and responsible design in developments.
